The National Weather Service has issued an alert for Erie and Niagara counties including all of East Niagara.
A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect until 5:30 p.m. as a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing damage is passing over the area stretching from Lake Ontario to southern Erie County.
The storm front is moving east at around 40 mph and winds may be in excess of 60 mph.
Wind damage with these storms will begin well ahead of any rain or lightning. The weather service advises you not wait for the sound of thunder before taking cover.
