ENP STAFF REPORTS

School districts across the state will hold budget votes and school board elections. In East Niagara, most districts have minimal budget and tax levy increases — in all cases below the state imposed tax cap.

Lockport

Voters will decide on an $86,328,656 budget, an increase of 3.93 percent. The tax levy up for approval is $36.04 million, up 2.26 percent, allowing for a property tax rate of $25.93 per $1,000 of assessed property value, up 2.21 percent.

Voters will also elect three school board candidates. With only three seeking office — David Nemi, Jon Williams and John Craig — they are assured the seats barring a last-minute write-in campaign.

Propositions include a capital reserve fund, approving the sale of Washington Hunt Elementary School for $65,000 to Ultimate Physique, and a non-binding advisory vote on whether to give property tax breaks to veterans.

Polls are open noon to 9 p.m.

Newfane

Voters will decide on a $33,918,036 budget, an increase of 0.65 percent. The tax levy up for approval is $13.03 million, up 1.85 percent, allowing for a property tax rate of $28.64 per $1,000 of assessed property value in Newfane and Wilson, and $26.35 in Lockport and Cambria — an increase of 1.85 percent.

Voters will select two of three school board candidates — James Little, Patrick Kilcullen, and Joseph Flagler.

One proposition calls for the approval of converting Newfane Free Library into a district library. If approved, a $125,000 budget will be established for the 2014-2015 fiscal year. The estimated 27-cent-per $1000 library tax will replace the funding previously provided by the Town of Newfane.

Polls are open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Roy-Hart

Voters will decide on a $22,363,886 budget, an increase of 1.54 percent. The tax levy up for approval is $9,639,652, up 2.94 percent, allowing for a property tax rate of $24 per $1,000 assessed property value in Royalton, up 2.94 percent; $22.08 per $1,000 assessed property value in Hartland, up 2.94 percent; and $22.08 per $1,000 assessed property value in Lockport, up 2.94 percent.

Voters will select three school board members from three people running — Keith Bond, Kenneth Koch, and Jeffrey Waters.

Polls are open noon to 8 p.m.

Barker

Voters will decide on an $18,543,787 budget, a decrease of 2.5 percent. The tax levy up for approval is $3.99 million, up 2 percent, allowing for a property tax rate of $16.46 per $1,000 assessed property value in Somerset, up 1.98 percent; $16.46 per $1,000 assessed property value in Hartland, up 1.98 percent;  and $17.89 per $1,000 assessed property value in Newfane, up 1.94 percent.

Voters will select two school board members from two people running — John Sweeney Jr. and Louis Mead.

Polls are open noon to 8 p.m.
