Jim Pennacchio considers the accessory options Sunday at Maurice's.
Take 20 men. Put them in dresses, wigs and makeup. Add a stage, some music and lights. Invite the public and raise money for Relay for Life.

This has been the formula that has raised more than $20,000 through the Peaches & Creme Fashion Show at the Palace Theatre over the past three years. And it's the same formula that organizers hope will raise thousands more this year when the fourth annual show is held Saturday at the Historic Palace Theatre.

The event was the concept of Anne Scinta LaSota, who decided three years ago that putting men in dresses would be something people would pay to see. Her employer at the time, Maurice's, agreed to back the event and allowed the men the use of their clothing, a practice they continue.

The men — referred to as MANgels — go to one of two after-hours fittings at Maurice's, picking the perfect outfit and accessories. Maurice's employees often comment at some of the MANgels' diva-like qualities in the fittings. Some are in and out in a few minutes. Others linger, trying on dress after dress to get the perfect "dude in a dress look."

Overheard at a fitting that took place on Sunday: "I can't wear lime. I wore lime last year."

This year's participating MANgels include Don Boyle, Drew Burke, Simon Chavers, Jim Criddle, Nick Galfo, TJ Gray, Jake Hoskings, Brian Keleher, Scott Leffler, Alec Maslowski, Tev Maslowski, Mike Passino, James Pettapiece, Jim Pennacchio, Joey Porth, Nathan Shanley, Tom Shanley, Matt Woolnough, Patrick Woolnough, and Steve Woolnough.

participant, Joey Porth, accessorize.
Each MANgel will walk the runway to a song of their choosing. Selections include "Dude Looks Like a Lady," "She's a Lady," "I'm Every Woman," "Man, I Feel Like a Woman," "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun," and "American Girl."

There is also a talent competition between several of the MANgels. And these men take their talent seriously, some practicing for weeks leading up to the show.

The Peaches & Creme Fashion show begins at 7 p.m. Saturday. Pre-sale tickets, available at Maurice's or from any of the MANgels, are $10. There will be a basket auction, 50/50 raffle, food and beverages available.

East Niagara Post is a proud sponsor of the 2014 Peaches & Creme Fashion show.
