GASPORT — A Lincoln Drive couple was charged Sunday with child endangerment after Niagara County Sheriff's deputies say their three-year-old son crossed Rochester Road unsupervised wearing only a pair of underwear.

According to the report filed, three people were approached Saturday afternoon by the three-year-old while at the Dollar General store, 8405 Rochester Road. They told patrol that the boy was crying and wearing only his underwear.

The trio asked the boy where his parents were and he said that he didn't know. They then asked where he lived and he pointed to a house on Lincoln Drive, across Rochester Road. They reported that they knocked on the door at the Lincoln Drive home several times with negative results, so they opened the storm door and yelled inside because the main door was open. After being unable to reach anyone within the home, they called NCSO for assistance.

When patrol arrived, they found a 13-year-old boy who told them that the three-year-old was his brother and he was unaware where his parents were. Asked if he was left to watch over the boy, the teenager said he was not. Numerous attempts by patrol to contact the parents failed over the course of about three hours, according to the report.

"Patrol observed the conditions of the home to be very poor. The home was very messy throughout, with garbage and random items on the floors and an unpleasant odor. Patrol believes the home was not in an acceptable condition to have the children living in," the report said, causing sheriff's deputies to call Child Protective Services.

At about 2 p.m. Patrol was contacted by the mother, 44-year-old Michelle Renna, who said she and her husband Louis Renna, also 44, had left the residence at 10 a.m. and asked their 13-year-old son to keep watch on the younger boy.

"Renna didn't appear too concerned or upset that her three-year-old child left the residence and crossed Rochester Road by himself and that patrol was unable to make contact with her or Louis for approximately three hours," the report said.

On Sunday, patrol returned to 4536 Lincoln Dr. and charged Michelle and Louis Renna with endangering the welfare of a child. Both were released on an appearance ticket to appear in Town of Royalton Court on Tuesday.

Gotta have a license to catch a fish and a permit to put a new roof on but anyone can have a child....got caught this time...wonder how many other times left the children alone........... Js
