ENP STAFF REPORTS
news@eastniagarapost.com
The New York State Police, in conjunction with local law enforcement, began a distracted driving and DWI crackdown on Friday for the Memorial Day weekend. It continues through Monday.
Major Michael Ceretto, Troop A commander, reminds everyone to "stay safe as we celebrate this weekend leading up to Memorial Day. Take a moment to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. They helped keep America free and safe. Now it's up to you to do your part for each other by keeping our roadways safe. Don't drink and drive, buckle up and don't use your electronic devices while driving."
“Traffic on New York State’s roads will be greatly increased this weekend as we come together to remember those who gave their lives for our country,” added New York State Department of Transportation Commissioner Joan McDonald. “I encourage motorists to check traffic conditions through 511NY before traveling and to be patient and respectful on the roads so that everyone can get to their destinations and home again safely.”
Additionally, message boards across the state will be reminding motorists to buckle up as part of the 14-day statewide “Buckle Up New York” campaign aimed at cracking down on drivers and their passengers who do not wear seatbelts.
East Niagara Post now publishes garage and yard sales.
