news@eastniagarapost.comEast Niagara municipalities will hold Memorial Day observances Sunday and Monday.
In Lockport, a Memorial Day procession will gather at 8 a.m. Sunday at the American Legion, 42 Niagara St. The procession will lay a wreath and have a brief ceremony at nine sites in Lockport, paying tribute to the fallen, leading up to a formal ceremony at Cold Springs Cemetery at 11 a.m.
The ceremony locations and times are as follows:
- 8:25 a.m. - St. Patrick's Cemetery (flagpole)
- 8:35 a.m. - Glenwood Cemetery (circle in new section)
- 8:45 a.m. - Outwater Park (monument)
- 9 a.m. - Ida Fritz Park (monument)
- 9:15 a.m. - Grossi Park (flagpole)
- 9:30 a.m. - Summit Park (monument)
- 9:45 a.m. - Altro Park (flagpole)
- 10 a.m. - Veterans' Park (flagpole and monument)
- 11 a.m. - Cold Springs Cemetery
Monday, Lockport's Ida Fritz Park hosts the annual Memorial Day Super Cruise from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Barker's annual Memorial Day program will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the soldier’s monument in Somerset Town Park on Haight Road, featuring the Barker Community Band and guest speaker Brian Castner, a former Air Force officer.
In Newfane, the Newfane American Legion Post 873 will hold its annual Memorial Day observance at 11 a.m. Monday at Corwin Cemetery. The Legion asks all veterans to wear their medals and ribbons to the observance.
In Middleport, a Memorial Day parade will take place Monday starting at noon. Participants are asked to assemble at 11:45 a.m behind the fire hall. Following the parade, a Memorial Day service will be held at Veterans' Monument and the Firemen's Monument.
A popular Memorial Day event just outside of East Niagara is the Wilson Historical Society Memorial Day Fair. It will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday on the museum grounds, 645 Lake St.
