A Newfane teenager sitting in a parked car at the end of East Main Street in Olcott with no lights on aroused the attention of Niagara County Sheriff's deputies on Friday.
The smell of marijuana turned that attention into charges for the 16-year-old, who lives on Lockport-Olcott Road.
According to a report filed by NCSO, the teen admitted to possession of a small amount of marijuana when questioned, and turned it over to patrol around 9:30 p.m. Friday.
The suspected marijuana was placed into an evidence bag and later secured into an NCSO evidence locker in order to be sent to the Niagara County Forensic Laboratory for confirmation.
The teen was issued an appearance ticket for Town of Newfane Court for April 22 on a possession of marijuana charge and sent on his way.
