City motorists had a bit of a detour around West Main Street this afternoon as city workers had the road torn up to replace some 100-plus-year-old water lines. The lines had to be replaced due to a break that happened Sunday.

The work was being done just west of the edge of the Big Bridge, between the municipal building and Henry Schmidt Junior's office, 8 W. Main St.

City officials weren't sure when the work would be completed.
