There are two sides to hockey — offense and defense. The Buffalo Sabres have had far to little of the former lately.

The Sabres gave up four goals on 37 shots and only scored once on 34 shots in tonight's game against the New York Islanders on the island.

The Islanders struck first, scoring on a Frans Nielsen slapshot 3:31 into the game. The scored again just under 14 minutes later on a power play goal by Kyle Okposo.

After a scoreless second period, Tyler Ennis gave Buffalo fans a reason to be optimistic, scoring a power play goal on a wraparound shot just 56 seconds into the third period. But the optimism was shortlived as Ryan Strome tallied the Islanders' third goal just 39 seconds later.

An empty netter by Cal Clutterbuck sealed the deal with 2:13 to go in regulation.

The loss was the Sabres fifth in a row. The Sabres next game is a rare Sunday night matchup at home against the Montreal Canadiens.
