Lockport Mayor Anne McCaffrey, in a speech following her ceremonial swearing in at the Historic Palace Theatre this evening, said better times are ahead.

The ceremony, attended by numerous local dignitaries, business owners and city residents, served as McCaffrey's swearing in, as well as the swearing in for Alderman Joe Kibler as Council President and newly appointed Alderman Ron Franco, who will serve through 2014 in the 2nd Ward.

McCaffrey's five-minute speech touched on some of the city's current fiscal issues, but primarily highlighted her optimism for the future.

"There is reason to believe in your city again," she told the crowd, adding later, "We can make Lockport great again. We have a strong history and I believe the best is yet to come."

Following the swearing in ceremony, the Common Council held a regular meeting where — among other things — they officially accepted the resignation of former Mayor Mike Tucker as well as the appointment of Mayor Anne McCaffrey, Alderman Kibler and Alderman Franco.

A reception followed the meeting with cake and punch. The Common Council's next regular meeting will be held on March 19.
