Outshooting the Buffalo Sabres, 55-23, the Carolina Hurricanes also doubled up on score, winning 4-2.
The Sabres took the board first as Tyler Ennis scored on a penalty shot 10:22 into the first period. Carolina tied the game just shy of three minutes later on a Jeff Skinner snap shot.
After a scoreless second period, the Sabres went ahead again in the third as Drew Stafford scored his 13th of the year with 11:17 left in regulation. But Sabres' trade deadline acquisition goaltender Michal Neuvirth couldn't keep up with the torrent of shots from the Hurricanes.
Carolina scored the next three goals: Alexander Smith on the power play at 11:48 of the third, Jiri Tlusty at 13:43 of the third, and former Sabre Nathan Gerbe wrapped it up with an empty netter with a second to go in the game.
The Sabres record now stands at 19-39-8. The Sabres next game is Saturday against the New York Islanders on Long Island.
