PHOTOS BY HEATHER N. GRIMMER/CONTRIBUTOR - Runners from the 43rd Annual Lockport Y10 run along Market Street by Vine Street this morning.

The Lockport Y10 race is underway around town. The 43rd annual event features a 10-mile run, relay format and "beautiful February weather," according to the Lockport Family YMCA.

The race started at 10 a.m. with runners beginning at the YMCA on East Avenue. From there, they headed east on East Avenue and took a left on Washburn Street to Chestnut and then Union Street. Taking a left on Union, they then took a right on Market and headed towards the Cold Springs Bridge Road, crossing the Erie Canal and picking up on Lockport-Olcott Road to Slayton Settlement Road. They then take Slayton Settlement  onto Harrington Road and then North Canal Road. After all that, they turn around and head back to the Y.

It's a challenging course due to the hills, open farmland in the Town of Lockport, and the chilly weather. For many runners it is their first time completing a 10-mile run, according to race officials.

East Avenue between Elm Street and Washburn Street will remain closed for the duration of the race and traffic will be limited on the rest of the course while the race is in progress. Race organizers ask that motorists be patient so the race is safe and successful.

More runners pass by Vine Street on Market Street headed towards Cold Springs Road.
