A 33-year-old Newfane man was arrested for DWI shortly after midnight after a traffic stop on Lockport-Olcott Road.
According to a report by the Niagara County Sheriff's Office, Charles E. Long was exceeding the speed limit when he was stopped by patrol. When asked if he consumed alcohol prior to his operation Long reported having "a few beers," after which Long failed field sobriety tests.
A check of Long's driving privileges revealed that they had been revoked due to previous driving while intoxicated convictions. Patrol took Long into custody and transported him to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office for further testing where his blood alcohol content was determined to be .13 percent.
In addition to DWI, he was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation, failure to notify of change of home, moving unsafely from lane, speeding and using a vehicle without interlock.
Long was remanded to the custody of the Niagara County Sheriff in lieu of $750 and ordered to appear in Town of Newfane Court on Tuesday.
