Make-A-Wish Western New York has a wish of its own — they're wishing for volunteers from Niagara County to help in the wish-granting process.
“Volunteers are an integral part of the wish-granting process, acting as the liaison between wish families and Make-A-Wish staff,” said Lisa Johnson, Volunteer Resources Coordinator, Make-A-Wish Western New York. “We want to ensure that we have enough volunteers to serve each and every child who qualifies for a wish in the 17-counties we cover. We need their help to turn heartfelt wishes into reality.”
Make-A-Wish is holding two upcoming training sessions for new volunteers. The first two-hour session takes place at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. The second will be held March 18. Contact Lisa Johnson in the Buffalo office for location information and an application by calling (716) 810-9474 Ext. 14 or emailing LJohnson@wny.wish.org
Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. In the 17-county radius of Western New York, Make-A-Wish grants on average 150 wishes each year.

Available volunteer roles include being trained as a wish granter, a speaker at community events, assisting at events or becoming a wish story writer.
“Whether it’s interacting with families directly as a wish granter or helping us spread the word of our heart-warming mission in the community as a speaker or writer, we appreciate the time and skills of all community members who join our volunteer team,” said Kate McGowan, Media Relations and Marketing Manager, Make-A-Wish Western New York. "We often hear that coming on board is a rewarding and life-changing experience for our volunteers."
