The Niagara County Sheriff's Office is holding a Sheriff’s Community Police Academy Thursday evenings from Feb. 27 through May 29. The free instructional classes will begin at 6 p.m. at the Niagara County Public Safety Building, 5574 Niagara St. Ext., and run for three to four hours per session.
The 14-week program is "designed to provide County residents with a working knowledge and background of the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office," according to the NCSO website. "Our goal is to foster a closer relationship between our agency and the community. This winning combination of learning ... together includes an aggressive curriculum of instruction. Topics, such as firearms training simulator, reality-based training, and emergency vehicle operator course, are just a short list of the many facets of the program. "
Selected participants will be notified by mail once accepted into the program. Participants must be at least 20 years of age, reside or work within Niagara County and have no prior felony convictions or outstanding warrants. Due to a limit in class size, it is possible that not all applicants will be accepted. Further details will be provided in the acceptance letter.
Applications, which are due Friday, can be obtained at www.niagarasheriff.com.
