While doing a routine check of the area shortly after midnight, Niagara County Sheriff's deputies discovered an underground fuel tank at Snell's Service in Hartland had its cap removed.
According to the report filed by NCSO, patrol had knowledge of previous attempts to siphon fuel from the underground tanks and contacted the owner of the service station, who responded to assess the situation.
The owner reported that he had received a fuel delivery Friday evening and thought the delivery driver may have inadvertently left the cap off the tank. The tank was secured and the owner is attempting to determine if any fuel was taken or if the cap was in fact left off the tank accidentally.
