Church-goers leave Grace Episcopal Church. 
About two dozen parishioners from Lockport churches walked with a life-size cross from station to station this afternoon, stopping at six churches along the way to celebrate Good Friday.

The theme for the annual Cross Walk was "Reflections on Bearing Witness in the Valley of the Shadow of Death." Starting at noon and concluding around 3 p.m., participants listened to sermons at each of the churches based on the theme.

Churches participating included Lockport United Church of Christ, 98 East Ave., Rev. Steve Hall, Pastor; First African Methodist Episcopal Church, 23 South St., Rev. William Cobb, Pastor; First English Lutheran Church, 185 Locust St., Rev. Flavia Skillbred, Pastor; Grace Episcopal Church, 100 Genesee St., Rev. Cynthia Sever, Rector; First Presbyterian Church, 21 Church St., Rev. Jim Hardy, Pastor; and Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 75 East Ave., Rev. Duane Priset, Pastor.

Today is one of the most holy days on the Christian calendar and churches throughout East Niagara are commemorating it in various ways.

Lockport's annual Cross walk will start at noon, roving from one church to another with six different churches along the route. The ceremony will start at noon at Lockport United Church of Christ at the corner of East Avenue and Washburn Street before heading across East Avenue to Emmanuel United Methodist Church. From there it will head to Faith African Methodist Episcopal Church, 123 South St., followed by First English Lutheran Church, 185 Locust St., Grace Episcopal Church, 100 Genesee St., First Presbyterian Church, 21 Church St., before heading back to Emmanuel United Methodist.

Lockport United Church of Christ will also hold a "Children's Cross" for kids aged 5 to 17 from noon to 3 p.m.

Barker's annual Cross Walk will take place at noon as members of Faith United and Countyline Methodist churches will start out at the Village Gazebo and proceed to Faith United Methodist Church at Haight and Quaker roads.

Olcott United Methodist Church will hold a Cross Walk of their own at noon, up Main Street to Krull Park, where they will hold a Good Friday service. Afterwards a small lunch of soup and sandwiches will be served.

Later in the evening, Faith Tabernacle Church on Beattie Avenue will host a “Catacomb Experience” at 7 p.m. with doors opening at 6:45 p.m. Attendees will learn in a new way the sacrifice that Jesus Christ made.
