ENP STAFF REPORTS

NEWFANE -- A 33-year-old Newfane man and a 26-year-old woman were both charged Tuesday with endangering the welfare of a child after Niagara County Sheriff's deputies found them -- and an infant -- asleep in a Ridge Road residence with an "active methamphetamine lab" inside.
According to NCSO, deputies responded to the home at 6287 Ridge Road, Lot 7, because two young children had told a neighbor "that they couldn't wake their parents." When patrol got there to check the couple's welfare, both parents, Joshua B. Hoefer and Brittany M. Blenker, were found sleeping in the back bedroom of the trailer.
"Officers also saw items commonly used for the making of methamphetamine on the floor by the bed, and an active methamphetamine lab," according to the NCSO report. Police "immediately evacuated all occupants, including an infant from a separate room."
Niagara County Drug Task Force and New York State Police Contaminated Crime Scene Emergency Response Team (CCSERT) responded. The CCSERT conducted decontamination of the lab and secured all hazardous materials for safe disposal.
Hoefer and Blenker both charged with endangering the welfare of a child, arraigned in Newfane Town Court and taken to Niagara County Jail on $5,000 bail each. They are due to return to Newfane Town Court on Tuesday.
