Erick Santiago scored a natural hat trick for the Lockport Express, offering an offensive output equal to that of the visiting Wilkes-Barre Miners. Mark Friol and Christopher Gasiewicz each tallied goals, as well, leading to a 5-3 Lockport victory.
Santiago's first goal game on the power play in the last minute of the first period. The goal, at 19:08, wa assisted by Kurt Villani and Dylan Jenkins. Just 25 seconds later, Santiago tallied another, assisted by Frankie Bodami.
Midway through the second period, Santiago completed the hat trick, again assisted by Bodami and Jordan Pocobello. Brett Welsh then scored a pair for Wilkes-Barre -- at 12;32 and 18:35. Hunter Hackling assisted on the first goal, while Zacharia Ouladelhadjahmed helped on the second.
In the third period, Friol put Lockport back up by two at 6:30, assisted by Peter Guido and Ryan Logar. Gasiewicz' goal at 11:34 made it 5-2. Friol and Guido assisted. Darrin Bruce Jr scored for Wilkes-Barre at 15:05 to make it 5-3. Ouladelhadjahmed assisted.
The Express, now 16-16-6, remain one point up on the Syracuse Stampede for the fourth and final playoff spot in the NA3EHL West. Syracuse still has a game in hand.
Lockport and Wilkes-Barre face off again at 7 p.m. at Cornerstone CFCU Arena.
