PITTSBURGH -- Zach Bogosian scored a pair for the Buffalo Sabres Sunday afternoon in a 4-3 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Bogosian's power play goal at 13:48 of the first period put Buffalo on the board. Mark Pysyk and Brian Gionta assisted. His goal with 22 seconds remaining in regulation brought the Sabres to within one, but the team couldn't tie the game in the dying seconds. Bogosian also assisted on the team's other goal, a power play goal by Gionta at 8:05 of the third period.

Pittsburgh had goals by Patric Hornqvist, Scott Wilson, Phil Kessel, and Matt Cullen.

Buffalo next plays Wednesday against the Anaheim Ducks, the team's first of a three-game west-coast trip.

  • Sunday’s game was the eighth of 11 afternoon games for the Sabres this season; the next will be on Saturday, March 5 vs. Minnesota.
  • The Sabres went 4-for-4 on the penalty kill Sunday, improving to 57-for-62 (91.9) in their last 21 games, dating back to Jan. 5 vs. FLA. The team has killed each of its 18 penalties in the last four games.
  • Zach Bogosian scored his first power-play goal since Dec. 31, 2011.
  • Mark Pysyk's assist on the goal was his first power-play point since an assist on Nov. 15, 2013.
  • Bogosian (2+1) recorded his 24th career multi-point game (last: Jan. 16 vs. WSH) and fourth career three-point game (last: March 30, 2012 at CAR), and Brian Gionta (1+1) recorded his 113th (last: Jan. 12 at MIN).
  • Pysyk now has four assists in five career games against the Penguins.
