PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia Flyers scored a pair of quick goals to start the second period against the Buffalo Sabres and the Sabres never recovered, going on to lose 5-1 at the hands of the Flyers.
R.J. Umberger netted the first goal of the game 1:23 into the second period, assisted by Sam Gagner and Mark Streit. Brayden Schenn made it 2-0 at 2:11, assisted by Michael Raffl. Some six minutes later, Wayne Simmonds made it 3-0 Philly, assisted by Shayne Gostisbehere and Jakub Voracek at 8:33. Raffl made it 4-0 at 15:57, assisted by Nick Cousins.
Half way through the third period, Jamie McGinn put Buffalo on the board, assisted by Jake McCabe and Mark Pysyk at 10:04. Cousins put Philly back up by 4 just 29 seconds later, however, for the 5-1 final.
Buffalo, now 21-28-6, hosts the Montreal Canadiens at First Niagara Center at 7:30 p.m.
