Starting the weekend in a tie with the Syracuse Stampede for fourth place in the NA3EHL West, the Lockport Express hoped to come home ahead. Taking three of a possible four points, the team did just that.
The Saturday and Sunday matchups saw Lockport win 5-3 on Saturday, but fall in a shootout by a 3-2 score. The three points gives Lockport's Junior A team 36 on the season with a 15-16-6 record. Syracuse has a 17-18-1 record for 35 points. They have played one less game than Lockport, however.
Scoring for Lockport on Saturday were Christopher Gasiewicz, Jordan Pocobello (2), Erick Santiago and Mark Friol with an empty netter to close the game out. Assists were tallied by Ryan Logar (3), Peter Guido, Devin Kasperek, Santiago, Frankie Bodami, Gasiewicz (2), and Andrew Logar. Netminder Sal Stalteri stopped 33 of 36 shots against him.
On Sunday, the Express were just 25 seconds away from a regulation win when Tucker Bartenslager scored for the Stampede on a power play. Frank Vecchio Jr. and Ryan Logar had each scored in the third period to give Lockport the 2-1 lead prior to that. Kasperek, Dylan Jenkins and Gasiewicz had assists.
Ryan Logar scored in the shooutout for Lockport, but Brendan McFall and Kurt Villani didn't get the puck in the net. For Syracuse, Nate Walker and Rocco DeRollo scored, clinching the win.
Lockport next plays at 7:30 p.m. Friday when the Wilkes-Barre Miners visit for the first of a three-game series. The teams play again at 7 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. Lockport has seven games remaining on the season -- all at home.
