ROCHESTER -- Freshly returned from Christmas break, the Lockport Express offense was firing on full cylinders Saturday. Unfortunately, so was the Roc City Royals offense -- especially on the power play.
Lockport and Roc City combined for 18 goals -- with Roc City netting 10 of them, widening their lead over Lockport to five points.
Roc City scored first with a Matt Corey power play goal at 3:44 of the first period, assisted by Anthony DePetres and Aidan Conolly. Frank Vecchio Jr. tied it for the Express at 5:30, unassisted before Mark Friol put Lockport ahead just 46 seconds later, assisted by Christopher Gasiewicz. Jared Tam-Grimshaw scored another power play goal for the Royals at 12:21, assisted by DePetres and Brandon Corey. Friol put Lockport back on top at 13;19, assisted by Gibson Stuart, only to have Cameron Clark tie it up for Roc City again less than a minute later. Cory and Tam-Grimshaw assisted. Then at 16:34, Brendan McFall scored for Lockport, assisted by Jordan Pocobello and Stuart, giving Lockport a 4-3 lead heading into the first intermission.
The recently acquired Jake Andriaccio made it 5-3 at 3:57 of the second period, assisted by Stuart. Roc City then scored three in a row -- two on the power play. First was Clark at 5:01, assisted by Corey and DePetres. Then at 7:29, Robert Vasta scored on the power play, assisted by Justin Allen and Tam-Grimshaw. Allen then scored a power play goal of his own at 10:36, assisted by Tam-Grimshaw and Zach Bucholz. Dylan Jenkins tied it for Lockport at 11:22, unassisted. Then Bucholz put Roc City back on top at 15:06, also unassisted. And Justin Allen widened the lead to two goals at 17:16, assisted by Sam Cammilleri and Cory Della Stua.
The third period saw Frankie Bodami pull Lockport within a goal at 7:41, assisted by Friol. Clark then returned Roc City to a two-goal lead at 10:00, assisted by DePetres and Corey. Vecchio Jr. made it 9-8 with 1:44 to play, assisted by Andriaccio. But then Corey scored an empty netter with 26 seconds to play to lock it up for Roc City.
The same two teams play at 3 p.m.
