Niagara County Manager Jeffrey Glatz is reviewing the effectiveness the county's department heads -- and seeking resumes to potentially fill those positions.

Glatz, who has just over two months remaining in his own position, advised department heads to submit résumés for review. The county is also soliciting résumés from qualified interested parties for a number of government posts, all of which do not have contracts or specified terms of office.

In a letter to department heads, Glatz noted that, with new legislative leadership now in place, “This year involves different levels of change in leadership that require a more involved focus ... I have recommended a review and reappraisal of the departments: their accomplishments, structure and leadership.”

Glatz told the department heads he had “come to know you as professionals that understand the mission of this [government], and like me, are committed to its success” before directing affected directors to submit their résumés to his office by Jan. 29.

“This is not an uncommon practice, as demonstrated by the City of Niagara Falls which is undergoing a similar process concurrently with ours,” Glatz wrote. “It is worth evaluating whether change in personnel and structure may be advantageous to our goal of providing the best services to the most citizens at the lowest cost.”

The directive to solicit candidates for the at-will department head posts came at the request of Legislature Chairman Keith McNall, who also urged the review Tuesday during his State of the County address.

The evaluation and review follows Glatz’s decision to resign his post effective at the end of March, after five years leading county government’s day-to-day operations.

The county will solicit résumés for the following positions:

  • Director, Office for the Aging
  • Director, Office of Management and Budget
  • Director, Employment and Training
  • Director of Human Resources
  • Director of Information Technology
  • Director of Probation
  • Commissioner of Public Works
  • Deputy Commissioner of Public Works - Engineering
  • Director of Buildings and Grounds
  • Director of Risk and Insurance Services

Full job descriptions and application paperwork will be posted at www.niagaracounty.com/employment.
