The National Weather Service calls for a lake effect snow advisory through 6 p.m.

According to the weather service, as much as 4 inches of snow may accumulate this afternoon, accompanied by winds of 10 to 20 mph. Those will result in visibilities of less than a quarter mile for drivers.

The snow advisory is called for throughout the Niagara Frontier, including Niagara, Orleans and northern Erie counties.

Also, due to expected extreme cold temperatures overnight, Lockport's Code Blue warming shelter will be open again from 8 p.m. - 8 a.m. at the Salvation Army, 50 Cottage St.

Any homeless person or individual without heat may spend the evening at the Salvation Army where light refreshments and cots/blankets are available to ensure that all are comfortable and safe.

Entry will will be permitted until midnight.

The National Weather Service forecasts an overnight low of 16 degrees -- before accounting for the windchill.
