The Buffalo Sabres are 0-2 on their current west coast road trip, falling 5-2 Monday night to the Vancouver Canucks.

Sabres' captain Brian Gionta and Sam Reinhart scored for the Blue & Gold, while Radim Vrbata's hat trick was enough for the Canuck victory.

Gionta got the Sabres on the board first, scoring a tip in from Jamie McGinn at 6:48 of the first period. Vrbata netted his first 1:20 later, a wrist shot assisted by Chris Higgins and Ben Hutton. At 16:42, Vrbata scored again on a deflection from Dan Hamhuis and Daniel Sedin.

In the second period, Brandon Prust made it 3-1 Vancouver, assisted by Derek Dorsett and Adam Cracknell. Hekrik Sedin then put the Canucks up 4-1 with a power play goal assisted by Alexander Elder and Daniel Sedin.

Sam Reinhart tried to bring the Sabres back into the game at 1:51 of the third period with a snap shot past Vancouver netminder Ryan Miller. Ryan O'Reilly assisted -- his 14th assist of the season. Vrbata solidified the with with his third goal at 14:28, assisted by Adam Cracknell and Prust.

The Sabres wrap up their road trip on Thursday against the Calgary Flames.
