Mary Elizabeth Garlock, 89, of Lockport, NY passed Wednesday, November 18, 2015.

Mary was born in Lockport, NY on January 26, 1926 to Edward and Anna Ritz Ryan. She is an alumni of St. Joseph’s Academy and later graduated from Mount St. Mary’s Nursing School in 1946. Mary enjoyed a successful nursing career at Lockport Memorial Hospital, serving many years as an RN Nursing Supervisor. After her second retirement from LMH (she was recruited to return after her first retirement), she became an Ombudsman volunteer with the Dale Association. In 1948, Mary married Ralph M. Garlock. Mary and Ralph travelled across the country, including Hawaii — twice. An accomplished seamstress, Mary also enjoyed puzzles, playing Bid Pitch — a true Lockport card game — crossword puzzles, and ceramic painting.

She is predeceased by her Husband Ralph and brother Jack. She is survived by loving sibling Edward (Eleanor) Ryan living in Arizona. Mary also leaves behind 5 loving children: David Garlock (spouse Kathy), Thomas Garlock (spouse Laurie), Maryann Quartararo (nee Garlock) (spouse James Quartararo), James Garlock (spouse Terry), and Patricia Degan (nee Garlock) (spouse Raymond Degan).  Mary also leaves behind her pride and joys, 12 grand-children and 4 great-granddaughters: Shawn Costello (spouse Lynne), Shannon Volland (nee Costello) (spouse Geoff Volland), Jennifer Garlock, Kimberly LaGreca (nee Garlock) (spouse Angelo LaGreca), Timothy Garlock, Courtney Garlock, Erin Moss (nee Garlock) (spouse Paul Moss), David Degan (spouse Emily), Lindsay Degan, Kate Garlock, Alex Garlock, and Elly Garlock.  Great-granddaughters: Alivia and Madelyn Volland, Morgan Costello, and Evelyn Moss.

Known to the little ones as “GG”, Mary held her family nearest and dearest to her heart. Sunday dinner was a tradition in the Garlock household with the whole family coming together for a delicious dinner and many rounds of Bid Pitch. Mary’s family would agree that she was a wonderful cook. She would be celebrating her 90th birthday this coming January, surrounded by her loving family, and perhaps another round of Bid Pitch in her memory.

Showing will be held Friday, November 20, 2015 at Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport from 4pm to 8pm. Mass will be held Saturday morning, November 21, 2015 at 10am at St. John’s Church, Chestnut St., Lockport. The family would like to express their great appreciation to the loving and caring staff at Briody Health Care Facility who all treated Mary like family. Mary will be greatly missed. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations made to a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated.
