More than 100 Lockport children have warm coats, hats and gloves for the winter thanks to Lockport Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 963 and Operation Warm, a national not-for-profit agency.

After collection donations throughout the summer at numerous events including the Taste of Lockport, the LFD open house and community picnic, firefighters partnered with the Lockport City School district nurses, who were instrumental in organizing the distribution within each school. In all, coats, hats and gloves were purchased for 102 children in six city schools in pre-k through sixth grade.

The firefighters wanted to pass along thanks to Lockport City School District Superintendent Michele Bradley, LCSD School Health Services Heather Walton. and city school district nurses in addition to corporate and community sponsors: Crosby’s, Tim Hortons, UAW Local 686, Van DeMark Inc., Faith Tabernacle Church, Lock 34, VFW, Provenzano Memorial Chapel, Lock City Supply, Cornerstone CFCU, Evans Agency, Prudent & Kandt Funeral Home, Groff’s Tavern, Cruise Night Optimist Club, SM Pynn & Sons, RB MAC, Mr. Quiggley’s and Josie’s.

Operation Warm provides brand new "Made in the USA" coats to children living in need across North America, "positively impacting their school attendance, self-esteem, and overall health and well-being," according to LFD.
