PAUL SMITHS -- Catherine Bergman of Barker and her teammates won the 2015 Yankee Small College Conference golf championship Oct. 17 in Portsmouth, N.H.
Bergman, a senior majoring in culinary arts, helped defeat Southern Maine Community College in the tournament final by 14 strokes. The Bobcats' total was 348, its best score to date.
The team competed in four YSCC tournaments this year and won all four.
"This shows the heart and character of all the players who competed," said coach Rodney Bushey. "Aug. 30 was our first practice, and the first tournament was Sept. 2. This team far exceeded what many thought it would do. We're very proud of this team and its accomplishments."
Paul Smith's, which was founded in 1946, is the only bachelor's degree-granting institution of higher education in the Adirondacks. Its programs - in fields including hospitality, culinary arts, forestry, natural resources and the sciences - draw on industries and resources available in our own backyard while preparing students for successful careers anywhere.
