PHILADELPHIA -- The Buffalo Sabres got points from nine different players tonight in a 4-3 overtime win over the Philadephia Flyers.
The win -- only the team's third this season -- came after Philadephia tied the game with less than a minute to go in regulation, forcing it into overtime. The Sabres, however, never trailed.
Tyler Ennis started the scoring for the Sabres, netting a backhand shot at 6:36 of the first period. Ryan O'Reilly assisted on the goal. At 10:39, Jamie McGinn tipped in a Johan Larsson shot. Brian Gionta also assisted on the play. At the 14:20, mark Philly notched its first, a Chris VandeVelde snap shot, assisted by Ryan White and Luke Schenn.
After a scoreless second period, Brayden Schenn tied it for the Flyers, assisted by Scott Laughton and Luke Schenn. The tie was short-lived, however, as Jake McCabe put Buffalo back on top just a minute and 22 seconds later. Cody Franson and Larsson assisted on the goal. At 19:06, Brayden Schenn tied it again for Philly, deflecting a Claude Giroux shot past Buffalo netminder Chad Johnson. Mark Streit also assisted.
Half-way through the 5 minute overtime, Zemgus Girgensons secured the victory for the Blue & Gold with a snap shot goal, assisted by Carlo Colaiacovo.
Chad Johnson stopped 30 of 33 shots in the game, including three in the three-on-three overtime period.
The Sabres play the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday in Pittsburgh, hoping for the first back-to-back victories this season. They return home Friday to play the Flyers at First Niagara Center.
