A 20-year-old Lockport man was charged this morning with the overnight stabbing of a 13-year-old girl at Grossi Park on the city's West End.
Accorinding to Lockport police, Derrick T. Washburn, 39 Lewis St., had gotten into a physical altercation at the park and stabbed the teenage girl in the back shortly before midnight. Grossi Park is a city owned park on West Avenue near South New York Street.
The victim and suspect were acquaintances.
Washburn was charged with first-degree attempted assault, third-degree criminal possession a weapon, first-degree reckless endangerment, tampering with physical evidence, and endangering the welfare of a child.
He was was arraigned this morning in Lockport City Court and remanded to Niagara County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail, with a return date of Monday.
The victim was transported to Eastern Niagara Hospital-Lockport with a non-life threatening injury.
Lockport Police are encouraging anyone with any information about this crime to contact the police at 433-7700, or use the confidential tip line at 439-6707.
