The Lockport Express Junior A hockey team had plenty of fan support in its inaugural season. This year, that's been followed up by sponsor support.
Express GM and Head Coach Frank Vecchio said the team has had more luck finding sponsors this year, in part due to the fact that the local business community has realized that the Express is a privately owned and run entity that simply is a tenant of cornerstone arena, whereas the rink itself is operated by a management company separate from the Express program.
Some sponsors who have approached the team in 2015 say they were reluctant to back the team last year because they were not clear as to how the affiliation between the team and the arena worked. The Lockport Express leases space from Cornerstone CFCU Arena to play hockey in Lockport but does not manage the facility.
That said, the team is still looking for sponsors with commitments available for as little as $10 for a gift certificate giveaway to as much at $2,000 for away jersey sponsorship.
