ENP STAFF REPORTS

OSWEGO — SUNY Oswego has awarded a Presidential Scholarship to Rachel A. Serianni of Lockport. The award recognizes past academic achievement and potential for success.
Serianni reserved a place in the incoming class for the fall 2015 semester, majoring in human resource management. She last studied at Royalton-Hartland Central School, and was scheduled to begin classes Aug. 24.
SUNY Oswego honored more than 800 incoming students — freshmen and transfers — with merit scholarships. Outstanding first-year students are offered Presidential Scholarships of $18,800 ($4,700 a year for up to four years; $2,350 a year for those living off campus), $6,000 Deans' Awards ($1,500 a year for up to four years), $3,000 Merit Awards ($750 a year for up to four years) and, for outstanding students from outside New York state, a variety of Destination Oswego scholarships of $5,000 to $8,000 a year.
First-year students who have completed the strongest academic programs with the highest grade averages and standardized test scores are invited to become Presidential Scholars.
The awards are part of about $5 million in merit scholarship money offered at SUNY Oswego. These funds are in addition to the more than $80 million in need-based grants, loans, work-study and scholarship awards that SUNY Oswego students receive annually.
