FORT KNOX, Ky. — John Lloyd of Lockport was promoted recently to the rank of Colonel in the United States Army.
Lloyd was promoted in a ceremony conducted July 1 by Brigadier General Richard Kaiser, Division Commander for the Great Lakes and Ohio River Division, United States Army Corps of Engineers.
Col. Lloyd has served over 26 years in the Army in numerous assignments and most recently commanded the 19th Engineer Battalion at Fort Knox where he responded to Hurricane Sandy in New York City and also deployed the unit to Kuwait in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2013-2014. Colonel Lloyd is currently a student at the Canadian Forces College in Toronto.
Col. Lloyd, a former employee of YMCA Camp Kenan in Somerset, enlisted in the Army after graduating from Lockport High School in 1986.
