WOLCOTTSVILLE — The Niagara County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Bureau has been forwarded information regarding a party in which four teenagers tortured a turtle.

According to NCSO, an animal cruelty investigator from the SPCA talked with Sheriff's deputies on Friday about the incident which occurred on June 6. The SPCA investigator said she "has received multiple inquiries at her agency regarding possible underage drinking that may have occurred at the party with the adult homeowners present."

The homeowners said they were asleep at the time of the alleged incident, but an 18-year-old girl told the SPCA investigator that "she was drinking alcohol in the presence of the parents at the residence, along with multiple other underage persons," according to the NCSO report.

The original investigation involved a group of high school-aged boys who tortured a snapping turtle that was picked up on Cedar Road in Newstead and took it to a party at a residence on Royalton Center Road, where it was repeatedly stabbed with a pitchfork, beaten with a baseball bat and thrown into a fire.

While the SPCA and New York State Department of Environmental Conservation are pursuing the animal-related charges against four individuals, other details of the case are being forwarded to CIB "for further review. "
