ROYALTON — An 86-year-old Lockport man was revived by a New York State Trooper Monday following a one-car accident on State Route 77.
According to the New York State Police, the vehicle, driven by Norman E. Neithe of Lockport, was found about 110 yards off the roadway in a field. Niethe was unconscious and not breathing.
The Trooper, who was not named, removed Nieithe from the vehicle with the assistance of a resident who heard the crash. The Trooper immediately performed CPR until EMS personal arrived. Niethe was breathing with the assistance of oxygen and conscious upon being taken by Tri Town Ambulance complaining of back and arm pain but with no visible signs of injuries. His passenger, Jane Niethe, 88, also of Lockport, was also transported by ambulance with the complaint of lower back pain.
According to police, Niethe lost control during a medical emergency he was experiencing while driving. He approached a curve in the road and crossed into the oncoming lane, striking a street sign in a small ditch before continuing through a driveway, where he struck an earth embankment, sending the vehicle airborne.
Norman Niethe is now listed in fair condition and it is believed he will recover, police say.
