ENP STAFF REPORTS

Records were made to be broken. And if Jennifer Serrano and the Lockport Business Association have their way, one particular Guinness World Record will fall on Sunday — for the second time this week.

As part of the Lockport Sesquicentennial Celebration, attendees of the the 15th Annual Taste of Lockport are attempting to break the record for "most people singing over a live radio broadcast" at 4:11 p.m. The record, which stood at 6689 until Monday is now 6,904 thanks to attendees at the Barclaycard Present British Summertime (UK), in Hyde Park, London.

That make's the Taste's calendar moving from August to the July 4 weekend all that much more meaningful as Lockport celebrates America's independence by attempting to win a record from England.

The Taste will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Ida Fritz Park and along Main Street from South Transit Road to Locust Street.

In honor of Lockport’s water roots from the Erie Canal, “Low Bridge” will be sung by all of the participating hungry record breakers led by the band, Blood Money. The interpretation from the endeared song about the Erie Canal is from the wide variety of artists who have covered it since it was penned by Thomas S. Allen in 1905, including school teachers to legendary singers like the Kingston Trio, Pete Seeger and Bruce Springsteen. The performance will be broadcast by 92.9 JackFM.

Registration for group leaders will be going on from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.  Check in for teams and their members will begin at 2:30 p.m., leaving plenty of time for all to enjoy the festivities of the day including, entertainment on two stages, a Kid Zone, beer tent, wine tasting, restaurant foods, and fresh-from-the-farm delights from the greater Lockport area.

Awards will be given for 12 different categories of food and wine and includes a People’s Choice award for best overall. A basket raffle and split club drawing will be offered by the Lockport Business Association in support of their work in the community through business grants and student scholarships.

Serrano, of Jenny Marketing Group, the event’s organizers says, “The Taste of Lockport 2015 is not just a food festival this celebratory year. It is a history-making, record-breaking showcase of the area.”

Local organizations have been invited to participate and children in music classes in Lockport were practicing from their lyric sheets before the school year ended. Restaurants, wineries and farms were all invited this year for a true sampling of the area. Sponsors will be on hand who come from all over WNY to support the Taste of Lockport.

Adjudicator, Michael Empric, from Guinness World Records will be on hand to announce the results after they are confirmed by independent auditors, Joseph M. Klimek and David J. Spara, from Toski & Company.

The Taste of Lockport drone sponsored by Paratroopers Army Navy from 92.9 JackFM and all of the hungry, record breaking team leaders will serve as evidence of the Taste of Lockport title of "most people singing over a live radio broadcast" from Guinness World Records.
