APPLETON — Someone got real ice cream last weekend at Baehr's Ice Cream stand on Lake Road — but paid with fake money.
According to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office, an employee of the stand had called to report a counterfeit $20 bill. On arrival, patrol was told that when the employee had taken the deposit from the ice cream stand to Key Bank in Barker, two of the tellers identified this particular bill as counterfeit.
The bill was most likely taken between July 10 and Sunday, according to the employee. Patrol took possession of the bill and logged it into evidence at NCSO. Baehr's was issued a receipt for the phoney bill.
