ENP STAFF REPORTS
news@eastniagarapost.com
BUFFALO — Better Business Bureau of Upstate New York is now offering Scam Tracker, a new feature that gives people the ability to report suspect phone calls, spam text messages, phishing emails, grant offers and other scams.
Since its inception, Scam Tracker has received close to 1,600 reports of scams across the United States, with more added daily.
“Scam Tracker will enhance our efforts to bring transparency to many of the schemes and other unscrupulous offers out there,” said Warren Clark, BBB of Upstate New York president. “Scams are prolific and present a constant threat. This is another tool to help us educate people about the dangers of scams, while giving a powerful sense of reality to these matters.”
BBB’s Scam Tracker is searchable by keywords, scam type, state and date range. Scam Tracker also provides users with an interactive map that shows the location of scams being reported across the country.
BBB team members routinely respond to callers and Internet inquiries regarding suspicious calls or emails. This new feature allows people to talk about their individual experiences as a warning for others. Anyone can go onto BBB’s website and read that someone else reported the exact same scam, see that someone lost, or could’ve potentially lost, thousands of dollars.
BBB encourages anyone contacted by a potential scammer or anyone interesting in learning more to check out the feature. You can go directly to BBB’s Scam Tracker page here (link).
