ENP STAFF REPORTS
news@eastniagarapost.com
A pair of business partners will start their third annual "Journey Along the Erie Canal" at 11:30 a.m. Monday from the gazebo on Canal Street. The ride is designed to raise awareness for and celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
John Robinson, renowned entrepreneur, motivational speaker and advocate for people with disabilities and his Our Ability business partner Doug Hamlin, will board their adaptive bicycles and depart on an ambitious 12-day journey across upstate New York via the historic Erie Canalway Trail.
A kickoff ceremony will be held at the gazebo at 11:30 a.m. Individuals with intellectual and other developmental disabilities, their families, local NYSARC, Inc. chapter employees and the public are invited to walk or ride as far as they would like to along the trail with Robinson and his team (with some riding the whole first-day route to Medina). Lockport Main Street Inc. is also assisting with the planning.
Lockport Mayor Anne McCaffrey, New York State Canal Corp. Director Brian Stratton and the Lockport Sesquicentennial Celebration Committee will all be on hand to wish the group well in their travels.
