The Bewley Building parking lot is set to play host to a weekly yard sale/flea market this summer.

The "Giant Yard Sale and Flea Market" will begin with a special bonus two day kick-off weekend June 27 and 28 to coincide with the annual Downtown Arts and Crafts show and the start of Lockport’s sesquicentennial celebration week. After that it will take place from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. each Saturday beginning July 4 through Aug. 29.

The market is sponsored by The Niagara Art Trail in cooperation with the Ticklebridge Co-op and Bewley Building Management.

Vendors can rent a full space (two parking spaces) for $20 per week. Half spaces are $12. The kick-off week taking place the last weekend in June will be the same price, but will include both days for the price of one as an added bonus. Organizers expect that many dealers who frequent flea markets will set up, but also encourage individuals to hold their yard sale here as well. Vendors can be open-air, bring a tent, or sell directly out of a car, van, or pick-up. No tents or tables will be provided. Vendors will be allowed to set up beginning at 7 a.m. the day of each market.

Organizers say that the venue is meant for the sale of used items traditionally found at flea markets or home yard sales. Non- flea market type vendors, such as crafters who wish to sell their items are encouraged to sign up for the Craft Show for the June weekend or the Lockport Community Market through the rest of the Summer.

Locatl not-for-profits and civic groups are invited to take turns setting up to promote their organizations free of charge, however space will be limited.

“Our goal is to enhance rather than detract from events which are already taking place in the City, so we do not want to lure vendors away from the existing venues," said Jay Krull, Niagara Art Trail director. "This is strictly flea market/yard sale."

“We have been involved with the Lockport Community Market since its inception in 2011 and we would never want to do anything to hurt the tremendous event which that has become. Being right around the block from Canal Street, we hope to give the folks who come down each week an additional shopping experience.”

There is no admission charge for shoppers.
