A 35-year-old Lockport man was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle after keeping a rental car two-and-a-half months longer than he paid for it.
Christopher M. Abbott, was charged the misdemeanor when he failed to return a Hertz rental vehicle per the rental agreement, according to New York State Police, who say that Abbott rented a 2011 Nissan Altima from Jan. 27 to Feb. 19. All attempts by Hertz to contact him were negative and the credit card used to rent the vehicle was cancelled.
Abbott returned the vehicle on May 5 to a different Hertz location after Troopers made several attempts to locate him through family members. He was processed and issued an appearance ticket on Thursday.
