The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Lockport is offering an opportunity for businesses and local communities to show their awareness and support in the fight against cancer from June 1 - 7.
This year, Paint Lockport Purple will be a photo contest. Interested businesses are asked to decorate their business in purple, the official color of Relay For Life, and this year’s theme – “Relay Through the Decades.” For an example, they can pick a favorite decade such as the 50s and decorate their business as a purple hued soda fountain with some employees decked out in purple poodle skirts.
To participate businesses are asked to submit up to three photos no later than June 12 by one of
four methods: via e-mail to relay14lpkt@gmail.com, by posting on the Relay For Life Lockport facebook page - www.facebook.com/groups/LockportRFL, by posting on twitter @LockportRelay #PaintLockportPurple or by mail: American Cancer Society, Re: Paint Lockport Purple, 101 John James Audubon Pkwy, Amherst, NY 14228.
Judging will be done at the Relay For Life event on June 20 at the Emmmet Belknap track by the public. The photos will be displayed and tickets for voting will be sold with all the proceeds going to Relay For Life of Lockport. Winners will be determined by how many tickets their photos have collected. The winners will be announced around 8:15 p.m. on June 20.
Paint the City Purple is designed to get the community excited about the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of Lockport. Relay For Life is an overnight community celebration where individuals and teams camp out, take part in fun activities, and take turns walking or running around a track “relay” style to raise funds to fight cancer.
The 2015 Relay For Life of Lockport will take place June 20-21 at Emmet Belknap School. At nightfall, participants will light hundreds of luminary candles around the track in a moving ceremony, which honors cancer survivors and remembers those lost to the disease.
