ENP STAFF REPORTS
news@eastniagarapost.com
The National Weather Service has issued a "Red flag warning," indicating the conditions are ripe for brush fires throughout Western New York including all of East Niagara.
The warning is in effect from noon until 7 p.m. while the area is expected to endure high winds and low humidity. Winds of 10 to 20 mph are expected with gusts as high as 35 mph. Temperatures will be in the upper 70s and low 80s with 25 to 30 percent humidity away from the lakeshore.
The combined weather conditions mean that forests are grass fuels are very dry. The "combination of low humidity and gusty winds may result in dangerous fire behavior," according to the weather service. "Any fires that do occur could spread quickly, burn intensely and be difficult to contain."
A burn ban is in effect across the entire state through mid-May.
