Officer Jared J. Forsyth, 33, of Ocala passed away on Monday, April 6, 2015.

Jared was born in 1981 in Smithville, Missouri and moved to Lockport, New York in 1983. He graduated Lockport High School in 1999, and went on to receive his Associates in Criminal Justice at NCCC. Jared decided to continue his education and got his Bachelors from SUNY, where he graduated in the top 10% of his class. Jared worked for the Orleans County Jail as a correctional officer, security at Rich Stadium (home of the Buffalo Bills), the art park, and many other event venues. In 2010, Jared moved to Ocala. He applied and was accepted to the basic recruit school at the College of Central Florida in Ocala. He was chosen by the Academy Coordinator to serve as the Company Commander for the 158th Police Academy which graduated on November 1, 2011, and then joined the Ocala Police Department in 2012.  Jared was what was considered now-a-days to be an over achiever. The word confuses us a little, because it describes Jared's whole family. In short, average was never good enough for him or his siblings. Jared believed in flying as high as he could go and let those that laugh fall behind, from his science fair award in 5th grade to his belt in Taekwondo to his short law enforcement career. Jared always pushed to be at the top. He wanted to be on every team, master every skill and simply be the best that he could be. This character trait was not just out of a sense of duty but an overwhelming innate desire to make his family proud. Jared was active in the Boy Scouts, DeMolay, drama club, and choir. He loved spending time with his family and friends, children and animals, camping, fishing, and relaxing near the water. He will be greatly missed by all the lives he touched.

Jared is survived by his mother, Amy F. Juliano (Lou) of Lockport, NY; father, Timothy P. Haley (Dawn) of Dunnellon, FL; sisters, Joanne Colon (Araldo) of Ocala, FL, Heather Adams (Daren) of Plano, TX, Amy Keller (Joshua) of Camp Lejeune, NC, Andrea Watkin (Rob) of Largo, FL; brother, Timothy P. Haley, Jr. of Dunnellon; aunts and uncles, Linda Gargalino, John (Judy) Forsyth of Goldsboro, NC, Becky Forsyth of Lockport, NY, David Forsyth of Syracuse, NY, Ellen (Marc) Watkins of Lockport, NY Jeannine and Ronnie Nichols, Jewel and Dennis Myers, Faith and David Hillman; nana, Frances Starkweather; great aunt, Norma Geer; and many cousins.  He is preceded in death by his grandparents, John A. and Mary Forsyth; and uncle, Thomas Forsyth.

Friends may call Thursday April 16th 3 to 7 PM, in Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday April 17th at 10 AM at St. John the Baptist RC Church, 168 Chestnut Street, Lockport.  Jared will be laid to rest at Hartland Central Cemetery, in Gasport, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Officer Jared Forsyth Memorial Fund at any Wells Fargo Bank.

Online condolences may be sent at www.pruddenandkandt.com.
