WHEATFIELD — The victims of a Friday-afternoon shooting on Errick Road were revealed today by the Niagara County Sheriff's Office.

According to a press release from NCSO, the shooting victims are Duane A. Bores, 58 and Cynthia A. Bores, 55.

The victims reported to 911 dispatchers that they had been shot by their son, Duane A Bores, Jr., age 25 inside their Errick Road home. Both victims sustained gunshot wounds about their necks and heads. They remain in critical condition at Erie County Medical Center.

Preliminary investigation by NCSO and New York State Police indicates Bores Jr. shot his parents first before exiting the rear of the house to confront the Niagara County Sheriff's deputy on the scene. Multiple rounds of gunfire were exchanged between the deputy and Bores Jr. in the driveway area.

Bores Jr. sustained gunshot wounds during the firefight and retreated back into the house before taking his own life, according to NCSO.

The deputy involved sustained a gunshot wound to the chest, which was stopped by his bullet resistant vest. He has been placed on administrative paid leave which is standard protocol by NCSO. His name will not be released for a few days so that he may spend time with his family.
