TOWN OF LOCKPORT — An Akron Road woman told Niagara County Sheriff's deputies that someone used her Social Security number to file their taxes.
The woman told patrol Wednesday that she had filed her taxes online but her return was rejected as someone else had already filed taxes using her Social Security number. It is not known whether this was done intentionally or accidentally.
The woman told patrol that she contacted the IRS, Social Security Administration, Federal Trade Commission, and Equifax, and was advised to file a police report.
Patrol issued an identity theft packet to the woman and closed the investigation pending new information.
