All Saints Parish will celebrate its first Masses with a new pastor this coming weekend.
Fr. Walter Szczesny was appointed to lead the church by Bishop Richard Malone. He has served as Director of Vocations for the Diocese of Buffalo. A native of Batavia, he studied at Oswego State College before enrolling at Wadhams Hall Seminary College in Ogdensburg, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy there and then entering Christ the King Seminary in East Aurora.
Fr. Szczesny served at Saint Madeleine Parish in Pomona, Calif. before returning to New York to take a position as teacher at the New York State School for the Blind in Batavia, working with children in the Deaf/Blind program. After two years, he went back to California as a counselor and tutor at Maryvale Catholic Orphanage in Rosemead, Calif. and then took a position with the US Treasury Office in Los Angeles, transferring shortly thereafter to the same job in Ithaca, where he remained for four years.
He found his way back into ministry and was ordained a Transitional Deacon in 1989, working at Saint Amelia Parish in Tonawanda. He was ordained a Priest in 1990 and set off to East Aurora for four years at Immaculate Conception Parish. this led him to Saints Peter & Paul Parish in Hamburg for the next five years.
He was asked by Bishop Henry J. Mansell to return to the Seminary to be the Assistant Director of Formation and to teach in the Liturgy Department. After two more years, he was assigned the additional responsibility as the Pastor of Saint George Parish in West Falls, where he remained until the summer of 2006 when he became the Director of Vocations for the Diocese of Buffalo. He will continue to serve in that role until a new Priest is found for the position.
Fr. Szczesny is expected to be on hand for a Saturday Vigil at 4 p.m. He is also expected to move into the rectory on Saturday. He will lead Masses at 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday. For a full Mass schedule, visit www.allsaintslockport.org.
