TOWN OF LOCKPORT — A 19-year-old Maplewood Drive man was charged with drugged driving late Monday night following a traffic stop on South Transit Road.

According to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office report, Joseph M. Luzio, 1210 Maplewood Drive, was seen driving northbound on South Transit Road with one headlight and stopped by patrol.

When patrol interviewed Luzio, he was found to have bloodshot eyes and a strong marijuana odor was coming from the car. Luzio said he was on his way to get a headlamp and admitted to having smoked marijuana around 10:30 p.m. — about an hour earlier.

After a series of field sobriety tests, he was charged with operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs, inadequate headlights, driving without a license, and operating a motor vehicle without an inspection certificate. While being searched, he was found to have a joint on him and further charged with unlawful possession of marijuana.

He was taken to Niagara County Jail and found to not have any alcohol in his system. He was then taken to Eastern Niagara Hospital-Lockport to have blood and urine tested for drugs. He was held on $250 bail and ordered to appear in Town of Lockport Court on Thursday.
