BUFFALO — The Buffalo Sabres have acquired forward Evander Kane, defenseman Zach Bogosian and goaltender Jason Kasdorf from the Winnipeg Jets in exchange for defenseman Tyler Myers, forwards Drew Stafford and Joel Armia, the rights to prospect Brendan Lemieux, as well as the Sabres’ latest first-round draft pick in the 2015 NHL Draft.
The team announced the multi-player deal just moments ago.
Kane (6’2”, 198 lbs., 8/2/91) has played in six NHL seasons with the Winnipeg Jets/Atlanta Thrashers franchise since being drafted in the first round (fourth overall) of the 2009 NHL Draft. In 2011-12, he led the Jets with 30 goals and, at 20 years old, was the NHL’s youngest 30-goal scorer that season. He has amassed 222 points (109+113) in 361 career NHL games, including 22 points (10+12) in 37 games played this season.
The Vancouver, B.C. native played for Team Canada at the World Junior Championship in 2009, helping Canada win the gold medal. He also played three seasons (2006-07 – 2008-09) with the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League.
Bogosian (6’3”, 225 lbs., 7/15/90) has played in seven seasons with the Jets/Thrashers organization after being selected by Atlanta in the first round (third overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, recording 127 points (40+87) and 325 penalty minutes in 393 career NHL games. The Massena native led all rookie defensemen with nine goals in 2008-09 and set career highs in assists (25) and points (30) in 65 games with Winnipeg in 2011-12.
In 41 games this season, Bogosian has tallied 13 points (3+10) and 40 penalty minutes while averaging 22:10 of ice time per game.
Kasdorf (6’3”, 178 lbs., 5/18/92), drafted by Winnipeg in the sixth round (157th overall) of the 2011 NHL Draft, is currently playing for the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he earned ECAC Rookie of the Year.
